Following the Medieval and Renaissance Footsteps of Normandy

Beyond the battlefields and stories of World War II, Normandy holds in its villages, castles, and abbeys a much older and more fascinating history. This tour invites you to discover a region rich in medieval and Renaissance architecture, where every stone tells centuries of tradition, power, and art. Immerse yourself in a lesser-known, yet equally unforgettable Normandy.

Immerse yourself in a lesser-known Normandy, beyond the stories of World War II, where every stone, every landscape, every building tells a much older story. This two-day tour will take you through a land rich in heritage, between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, where proud royal fortresses, millenary abbeys, and churches sculpted by time still stand. You will discover a region of authentic beauty and unexpected richness that has preserved its soul and legacy.

Throughout this journey, your guide will open the doors to iconic places, often unknown to the general public, and bring to life the major events that shaped Normandy’s history, from the Anglo-Norman conquests to the rise of its ports and cities of art. Picturesque villages, historic towns, panoramas over the Seine or the English Channel, local traditions, and authentic gastronomy will define this cultural and sensory adventure. This time travel experience, both educational and deeply human, will offer you a new perspective on one of France’s most fascinating regions.

A complete immersion between history and emotion.

Designed as a true immersion, this tour is marked by moments of contemplation, discovery, and sharing. You will walk in the footsteps of Richard the Lionheart, admire the elegance of the great Benedictine abbeys, stroll through the streets of former fishing ports, and feel the unique atmosphere of art cities steeped in history. Each stage is designed to awaken your senses, enrich your perspective, and create lasting memories.

Trip Highlights :

After about an hour of driving, we will leave the highway and head to the first visit, the impressive fortress of Château Gaillard, built by King Richard I of England, “Richard the Lionheart,” in 1196 to block access to Rouen for the King of France.

During the castle visit, you will be able to admire a magnificent view of the Seine Valley.

Next, you will head to Jumièges Abbey, which occupies a splendid location on the banks of the Seine and is undoubtedly one of the most impressive ruins in France.

The galleries, the right side, the nave’s framework, the choir’s hemicycle, the cloister’s galleries — all of this will come to life thanks to your guide’s explanations.

After the visit, you will have lunch in a typical Norman restaurant to discover the region’s specialties.

After lunch, your guide will take you to Rouen, the capital of Upper Normandy, which has continuously developed since the Roman Empire. You will begin your stroll through the old city, discovering the Finance Office, the Archbishopric, the splendid Renaissance-style Palace of Justice, and the Gros-Horloge, Rouen’s most famous monument — a 1527 clock with its magnificent belfry topped by a dome. You will stop at the Place du Vieux-Marché, where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake, before visiting Rouen Cathedral, one of the finest examples of French Gothic art, immortalized over 20 times by Claude Monet.
